The average child by some estimates will see more than 20,000 commercials each year. By the time children finish high school, they have spent nearly twice as many hours in front of the television set as in the classroom.
There is an old adage: “Sell them what they want, give them what they need.” Advertising motivates consumers to purchase products and services by making us the consumer feel that we need the things that we merely want.
One of the tactics used in advertising is that of “emotions”
Here is an exercise that can be lots of fun. Using TV commercials, radio ads, or those in magazines, billboards, transit signs, newspapers etc, sit with your child and see it you can identify any of the emotions being used in your favorite ads.
