How to Get Kids to Share!

At home we teach our kids to share their toys and we encourage them to give to others in need but kids can also lend to entrepreneurs! How cool is that?

Many of us have no problem giving to a recognized charity as we open our wallets and purses to help others financially but while teaching kids at some of my camps I have found that some youngsters find it difficult to ‘give’ money to someone else.

What if we didn’t actually have to give? What if we were able to lend to others so that they could help themselves?

I personally am a firm believer in teaching a person to help themselves. There is an old Chinese expression “Give a person a fish you feed them for a day. Teach a person to fish you feed them for a lifetime!”

A micro credit organization might be the solution for a child that can’t yet part with money to help someone else.  Micro credit organizations lend money to entrepreneurs around the world to help them to help themselves. They raise the money from folks like you and I and lend it to an entrepreneur that you choose. When the loan is repaid, you get back your money. The amounts start at $25 and can be a great way to introduce a youngster to sharing with those in need.

A microcredit organization like KIVA , make it very easy for folks like you and I to reach out to these entrepreneurs. They even have a great gift giving idea that I used last year as Christmas gifts.

Money Smarts 4 Kids created a lending group and you are welcome to join this group if you like. Here is the link:

If you have a child that finds it hard to give…they may come around when they learn that they can lend!
